Fall Theme Preschool- crafts, fine motor, gross motor, snacks, field trip, sensory bin, and more! Perfect amount of activities for one week of EASY homeschool pre-k.

We've taken our time with fall week, spending lots of time on fun crafts and soaking in the season!  It's a wonderful time of year to have (or teach) young children!  At the time we did these activities, Lena was a young 4 and Maggie was about 2 1/2.

Leaf Garland

We made this pretty leaf garland using nothing but paper towels and markers.  The girls loved this project, and it is hanging beautifully in our house!  Read all about it!

Sensory Bin

Fall Sensory Bin for Preschool Theme

This simple fall sensory bin is easy to put together, and your little ones will love playing with it!  It includes popcorn, plastic acorns and pumpkins, and other fall decorations.  The popcorn feels so good running through your fingers, you might just find yourself playing with it more than your kids.

Pumpkin Muffins and Applesauce

We cooked up some fall goodies this week.  We made pumpkin muffins, and the girls were fascinated that we put an actual pumpkin in them.

We also made some homemade applesauce!  Have you seen these little gadgets?  We love ours; it makes peeling, slicing, and coring apples easy enough for a 4-year-old to do!

Take a giant bag of apples, one eager helper, and in just a few minutes you've got a crock pot full of apples and a plate of peels (makes me REALLY wish that we had a compost pile set up)!

If you've never made applesauce before, you should give it a try!  Just cook your apples in a crock pot, along with about a 1/2 cup of water or apple juice until they're very soft.  Then add some cinnamon and whir them through a food processor.  You can also add a little sugar if you like.  Easy!  It keeps for several days in the fridge, but ours never lasts very long.

Yarn Wrapping

These pretty fall decorations have made their way into our fall sensory bin by now!  Making them provided some nice fine motor practice.  It is a perfect quick and easy fall craft.  Read all about them!

Catch a Falling Leaf (Gross Motor Game)

We have played this fun fall gross motor game for several years now!  Take some artificial leaves and drop them from as high as you can get-- we have a small landing on our second floor that overlooks our foyer and part of our living room.  Give your children some small baskets or boxes and let them try to grab the leaves as you drop them down.   They'll run around, work on their hand-eye coordination, and practice catching.  Lots of fun!

Fall Play Dough

Fall Play Dough

I love this idea for fall play dough from Nurture Store.  The colors and scents of fall inspired some fun play for my girls this week.

Ours didn't turn out as vibrant, but it was still yummy smelling and nicely squishy.  We added a little bit of ABC practice to our play as well!

Field Trip

Between apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and corn mazes, there is almost too much to choose from to do for a fun fall field trip!  You could also find an easy hike to do if you live in an area where the leaves turn pretty colors.

We like to take a trip every year to a favorite pumpkin patch where they also have a corn maze and lots of harvesty games and activities for the kids to do.

Printables

Though we didn't use any printables this week, the first place I always look is Homeschool Creations.  Jolanthe provides a huge variety of activities, often targeted for different age ranges.  This fall fun printable pack looks perfect!

Picture Books

By a long shot, the "Favorite Book of the Week" prize goes to Otis and the Scarecrow by Loren Long.  My girls are huge fans of Otis the tractor, so they were all squealy when they saw this new book.  To be completely honest, it is probably my least favorite of the Otis books, but that really doesn't mean much since I love the whole series.

Here are many of the other picture books that we read this week about fall.  There are LOTS of other fall books to choose from, as well, so you should be able to get a good selection from your local library.
