Several weeks ago, I wrote a post about having a Kid Friendly Kitchen. In doing so, I was looking for a great kids apron to share with you and didn't love anything that I found. Time to make our own!
- blank child's apron
- citrus fruit (We used lemons, limes, and oranges. They all looked the same, so you don't really need all 3 types.)
- fabric paint (I love Tulip Soft Fabric Paint.) in citrusy colors
- paper plate
Pre-wash (and dry) your apron.
You'll want to really cover your work surface and cover your children! Fabric paint will NOT wash out of clothes or a table cloth. I put a plastic table cloth down on our table and then covered that with an old sheet that we use for messy projects.
Cut your citrus fruit in half. Using a paper towel, get some of the moisture off the fruit. You'll want them to be fairly dry. Squirt some paint onto a paper plate. Dip your fruit in the paint and stamp it onto your apron. The best prints came on the 2nd or 3rd stamp from each dip of paint. You may want to encourage your children to do their first stamp on a piece of paper so that the stamps on the apron look the best!
Allow the paint to dry according to the directions on the bottle. I let our aprons dry for 3 days, then washed them in a separate load of laundry. My girls have LOVED having their own little aprons to wear!
