You'll need some Valentine beads.  We used some purchased as a mix from a craft store but you could easily just buy some red, pink, and white beads in different shapes.  If you're purchasing from Amazon, this set contains some nice pinks, while this set contains red hearts.
You'll also need little heart containers.  Ours were from the Dollar Tree, but I've also seen similar things at Target and many craft stores.  While they add a nice touch, they're not necessary and you could easily let your kids sort into other containers.

Set up a tray for your child with a bowl of beads and your containers.

Let your child sort!  Depending on their age, they can sort by color, or size.  And if you're working with an obsessive detail oriented child, they can sort by color AND size, with one container for each and every kind of bead that you have!
